Born in Odessa (Ukraine) . He began his cello studies at the Stoliarsky School. He studied withL. Evgrafov \u00a0at the Gnessin Institute (Moscow), received his diploma in 1981 \u00a0and \u00a0completed \u00a0an\u00a0assistantship there in 1984. He studied chamber music with V. Berlinsky (Borodine Quartet) and\u00a0completed graduate studies at the Paris National Conservatory with Alain Meunier.<\/p>\n
In 1981,\u00a0he won First Prize in the All Russia Cello Competition; in 1984 he was a winner in the International Cello Competition, Belgrade.<\/p>\n
In 1988, he joined the Anton String Quartet. The following year, as a member of this quartet, he won the Grand Prix and the International Press Jury\u2019s Prize at the Evian International Competition.<\/p>\n
In 1993, again with the Anton Quartet, he won both First Prize and Special Prize for the best\u00a0interpretation of Russian music at the third Schostakovitch International Competition for\u00a0String\u00a0Quartets in St. Petersburg.\u00a0As\u00a0a\u00a0member of the\u00a0Anton Quartet, he \u00a0made numerous\u00a0tours\u00a0in\u00a0France,\u00a0Germany,\u00a0Finland,\u00a0Hungary, Russia, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Japan, Mexico, Morocco and performed in some\u00a0of \u00a0the \u00a0most \u00a0prestigious \u00a0halls \u00a0and \u00a0festivals: Th\u00e9\u00e2tre \u00a0des \u00a0Champs-\u00ad\u00c9lys\u00e9es, Th\u00e9\u00e2tre<\/p>\n
