Philippe Portejoie

Philippe Portejoie studied saxophone in Nantes, with Jean-Pierre Magnac, then in Paris with Daniel Deffayet. He won many prizes, as solist as well as playing chamber music .

He plays and records with the main orchestras and with many famous conductors, worldwide.

Since 1986, he has shared its time between the saxophone-piano Duet, with Frédérique Lagarde, and the Claude Bolling’s Big Band, where he plays as first alto saxophone. He performs music with the most famous jazzmen, as Phil Woods, Clark Terry, Dizzie Gillepsie, Stéphane Grappelli, Didier Lockwood, John Faddis…

Philippe Portejoie likes to perform all styles of music : classical, jazz, film music. He is a composer and an arranger, for Claude Bolling for instance. He plays also in several quartets and in the Paronyme trio, with Frédérique Lagarde and the clarinettist Sylvie Hue. Many composers wrote pieces for him and these musical groups.

Philippe Portejoie is Saxophone teacher in the CRR of Paris and conservatory Paul Dukas. He gives masterclasses in France and in other countries.

Philippe Portejoie plays exclusively the saxophones Buffet Crampon, the reeds of Addario and ligatures BG. It is also supported by Rico-D’addario, Feeling-Musique and SPEDIDAM.
